WP4 Intro!

In a Boston Globe article, it was described how an aborted baby continued to live, gasping and twitching in a bedoan, abandoned to a small room in a Philadelphia hospital with other aborted children. The article states the doctor performed an abortion for a 13 year-old girl. The girl and her mother told the doctor the she was four and a half months pregnant. The Globe stated that the girl was eight months along. The doctor said, "it certainly did not breath, and it didnt cry, i was very certain the baby was stillborn." However the nursing supervisor testified that she found the baby alive an hour after the abortion. "the back was arched, the head was drawn back, the eyes were closed, and the arms were limp, and then I saw it take a gasp." The baby was then taken to the emergency room and pronounced dead at eleven pm.
When you hear the word abortion what is the first word that pops into your head? For some its termination, others its mistake, but for some its relief. The medical definition of abortion is, a procedure that that ends a pregnancy by removing the fetus and placenta from the mothers womb. The main word I look at in this definition is "ends." Abortion ends the life of a helpless person giving the baby no chance to have a life or the choice to live it. in many peoples eyes abortion is murder, murder is not leagal so why should abortion be.

  1. the pathos based story you start with captures some readers but leaves others uninterested; however it is effective for that audience. My more immediate concern is the context paragraph which deals only with emotional issues and does not deal wit the elements of abortion as an issue that will change anything--the legal aspects. I've made this comment before, if you are going to deal with abortion as an issue, the issue is about rights as established by the roe v wade supreme court case. you need to think through your issue on those terms.
